Discover Clearwater, FL

My family and I decided to drive to Clearwater after staying in Disney for few days. We stayed at the Hilton Clearwater Beach Resort and Spa right within walking distance to Pier 60. Here are some of the top places to see and eat while you’re here!

1. Pier 60

Pier 60 is a very popular sight for people to visit especially at night time. When the sun starts to set street performers and magicians come out to put on a show for the crowd. When you walk down the pier there’s a bunch of craft vendors selling everything from handmade spoon rings to necklaces. During the day you could fish off the pier for a small fee.

2. Extreme Pizza

Extreme Pizza was right across the street from our hotel. It was a pizza place where you could sit inside or outside. The best part about this place is that they had so many different pizza options. Since I’m lactose intolerant I was able to get a gluten free pizza with dairy free cheese and toppings of my choice. We ate here twice while we were there and the best part is they deliver to the hotel if you wish.

3. Frenchy’s

Frenchy’s has a total of 9 different restaurants throughout Clearwater. One night we walked to Frenchy’s Rockaway Grill which was located right on the beach. The food was absolutely amazing. I would definitely recommend getting the Garlic Crab Fries. Although they are known for their seafood, they do have a wide variety to choose from. If you’re looking for a refreshing alcoholic drink; the Fruit Punch Piña Colada is worth a try. The second time we went there I got a Caesar Salad. I’m not sure about the other locations but this location was very busy both times  we went. They have tables indoors and outdoors as well but it was beautiful to watch the sunset when we sat outside.

4. Clearwater Marine Aquarium

If you’ve ever seen the movie Dolphin Tale then Clearwater Marine Aquarium is a pretty fun place to visit especially with kids. However, there isn’t much to see since it was originally rehab facility for marine animals.  If you are a fan of the movie, you are able to visit the tank where they keep Winter and Hope. The bird who plays Rufus in the movie is also there.  The aquarium also offers different boat tours which are definitely worth it in my opinion. They do have a couple options including a tour of the boat used in the movie but we chose to do the Sea Life Safari Boat Tour. The tour includes a 90-minute boat ride where the guides would collect some of the sea creatures in a net to see what they find. They explain how they’re only allowed to do this in certain spots so they don’t disturb the sea life. The tour also includes a short stop to a small island called “shell island” where we were able to get off  the boat and collect as many shells as we could. On our way back we were lucky enough to spot a couple different dolphin pods.

5. Caladesi Island State Park

One of the best day trips to take if you want to relax on a secluded beach.  To get there you have to take a 20 minute ferry ride to the island where the ferries run every so often when you’re ready to leave.  After, its a short walk to the beach where you can rent beach chairs and umbrellas or pick any spot along the beach. The beach does have bathrooms where you get dropped off but other than that there isn’t much there. The beach is great to explore and hike around, just be careful for the snakes. You will also find protected sea turtle nests. When you go into the water, you have to shuffle your feet since the stingrays like to hide under the sand which was slightly terrifying.

6.  Catamaran Boat Ride

I would recommend taking a catamaran tour especially when the sun is setting. We chose to do Kai Lani Catamaran which left out of Clearwater Beach Marina, not far from Pier 60. They set the mood by playing island music and they also have a bar on the ship if you want beer, wine or other drinks. Definitely book this tour ahead of time since the boat doesn’t hold a lot of people and goes out once a day. There are many other tours to check out here as well.

7. Westfield Countyside Mall/ Cobb Movie Theater

One of the days we were there the weather was terrible. It rained almost the whole day which limited the activities we could do. We didn’t want to stay in the hotel all day so we decided to go see Finding Dory at the Cobb Theater. It’s nice to know that there’s still something to do when the weather isn’t so great. We didn’t explore the whole mall but the movies was definitely worth going to.

The Hilton Clearwater Beach Resort and Spa was located right on the beach. It had a restaurant on the main floor and a tiki bar right on the beach. You can rent a cabana or beach chairs if you want as well. The best part is the hotel has a golf cart that they converted into a bar which drives around to you on the beach. Coolest invention ever. I honestly can’t wait to go back.

These are only a handful of things to do and places to eat, definitely check out TripAdvisor for more! If you have any places you’d recommend to see or do here please drop them in the comments 🙂
